Baby’s First Foods

on January 30, 2014

I have family members and friends that have babies around the 4 month to 6 month age.  This is the age when babies start eating pureed foods.  I always made Luna’s food from scratch.  I have never bought any jarred baby food.  I have been asked many times what did I do for Luna… I used all organic foods, puréed where necessary and made enough for  3 days worth to be stored.  It worked out beautifully with my work schedule and being time efficient.

First Foods:

Baby foods can be stored for up to 3 days – NO LONGER THAN 3!  I stored all baby food in glass storage containers that held exactly 3 days worth.  Bed and Bath has plenty to choose from.

Organic Rolled Oatmeal – 2 cups water, 1 cup oatmeal, bring to boil and lower to simmer for 10-20minutes. Puree in food processor.  Store in glass storage container.

Organic Avocado – Simply scoop out meat and mash with a fork or purée with food processor. Use water to thin it out if necessary. Serve.  I never stored left over avocado because it blackens.

Organic Sweet Potato – Bake for 45 minute to 1 hour at 400 degrees.  Scoop out and mash with fork or purée with food processor.  Add water to thin it out if necessary.

Organic Apple – Peel and cut apple into chunks.  Boil for about 20 minutes until soft.  Purée and add a dash of cinnamon (optional).

Organic Banana – Mash with fork or purée and add water to thin.

Organic Pear – Peal and cut up pear into chunks.  Steam or boil for about 10 minutes or until tender.  Purée in processor.

Peas – Boil until tender about 10 minutes.  Purée with processor.

Butternut Squash – Boil or bake for 30 – 45 minutes (until tender).  Purée in processor.

Organic Green Beans – Cut ends off and boil or steam for 5-10 minutes. Purée in processor.
