Fresh Orange Juice For Luna And You – Easy As 1-2-3!

The other day Luna asked for orange juice.  I don’t have orange juice in the house because we don’t drink it.  Unless, it’s fresh pressed, fresh squeezed or a BluePrint drink, it’s processed… Yes, Tropicana is garbage and so is Sunny Delight… Bleh!

Soooo, I thought quickly and decided to squeeze an actual orange to make Luna fresh O.J! What better way than to give my daughter a vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B1, folate, fiber, copper, zinc, antioxidant, phytonutrient packed food!  

Did you know that an orange has over 170 different phytonutrients and more than 60 flavonoids, many of which have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour and blood clot inhibiting properties, as well as strong antioxidant effects?!?!  Oranges protect against heart disease, stroke, many types of cancers, and have even been shown to help cognitive memory. Compounds found in citrus fruit peels called polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs) can lower cholesterol more effectively than prescription drugs, and without side effects!   So, go eat some citrus!

How I made O.J.- I used an old fashion citrus hand juicer.  I cut the organic orange in half and pressed.  Poured the juice into a jar or glass and diluted a quarter of it with water.  If you don’t like pulp and Luna does not, just strain it!  It took five minutes to do this!
