Change Of Seasons – Change Of Lifestyle Habits

on September 21, 2014

Summer has come to an end and Fall has arrived.  Well, not this weekend with super warm temperatures here in New York, felt more like my Costa Rica vacation years ago.  Luna and I took our normal Sunday morning walk along the Bronx River Path, where we saw a Red Tailed Hawk and a White Egret (Heron).  Crossing paths with these two birds was fitting because the hawk symbolizes change is coming and the Egret symbolizes balance amongst other things.  When seasons change, our bodies change as well to adapt to the different climate.  I stay on my routine for fitness, but tweak my food intake to reflect the season.

In the morning, I add ginger and turmeric to my green tea.  All immune boosters!  I will also have Peppermint tea or Chamomile at night – both have healing and calming properties (See prior posts).  I add Manuka honey to my teas, which is an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory.  I give teas and spices mentioned to Luna, except honey because she has a slight allergy to it.  Babies under one year of age should NOT ingest any honey due to possible allergies to it.

I normally do not believe in taking vitamins if you are eating properly.  However, during the cool and cold weather, way too many people get sick and I am around A LOT of people with direct contact.  Being a personal trainer, nutrition specialist and coach, it’s impossible to avoid working closely with a client.  Vitamin Code also makes a kids vitamin for ages 3 years and up – ALL ORGANIC plus veggies and fruits!

I normally juice at least five times a week, but have taken a break from it over the summer.  I will be starting back up this week.  If I don’t get to  juice then I use Green Vibrance – it’s packed with veggies, fruits, vitamins and minerals, all in one scoop!  Those of you with babies, toddlers and kids of all ages; I gave and give Luna Green Vibrance as well as do juicing with her – NEVER too young to start a healthy lifestyle!

Aaaannnd my favorite “treat” changes form an iced to a hot latte with a splash of soy 🙂

Stay healthy, happy and winterize your body!
