What better than to make your own homemade flaxseed crackers for a healthy snack option for the family. Why flaxseeds, you ask?? Well, these little gems are known for their Omega-3 content, high fiber, phytonutrients, antioxidants and more importantly polyphenol antioxidants, lignans, Vitamin B1, copper, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and selenium. They are known to have cardiovascular benefits, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, prevent cancer, reduce the risk of insulin resistance, reduce cholesterol, increase good cholesterol (HDL) except in studies with children between 8-18 years. So, in this very small study out of Canada, it was in fact found that 2 tablespoons of flaxseeds a day did indeed reduce good cholesterol in children – so just be aware if you have little ones. More studies need to be done… Everything in moderation!
