Make Your Own Crackers – Ones With Chocolate?!

on November 14, 2014

What better than to make your own homemade flaxseed crackers for a healthy snack option for the family. Why flaxseeds, you ask?? Well, these little gems are known for their Omega-3 content, high fiber, phytonutrients, antioxidants and more importantly polyphenol antioxidants, lignans, Vitamin B1, copper, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and selenium.  They are known to have cardiovascular benefits, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, prevent cancer, reduce the risk of insulin resistance, reduce cholesterol, increase good cholesterol (HDL) except in studies with children between 8-18 years.  So, in this very small study out of Canada, it was in fact found that 2 tablespoons of flaxseeds a day did indeed reduce good cholesterol in children – so just be aware if you have little ones.  More studies need to be done… Everything in moderation!

OK! Here’s the recipe for Chocolate Flaxseed Crackers

5 Tablespoons of organic raw flaxseeds

7 tablespoons of water

1 tablespoon organic raw agave

2 tablespoons of organic raw cacao powder

Pinch of Himalayan sea salt

Directions:

Preheat oven at 350F

Mix everything in bowl and let sit for 15 minutes

Line baking sheet with parchment paper

Place dollops of little circles on parchment paper and gently flatten/spread out with back of spoon

Bake for 15 minutes

Eat plain or dip in nut butter, humus, guacamole and so much more!
