Handmade, Healthy Products For Baby and Mommy

I stumbled on to this company in search of a toothpaste that would not be toxic to Luna. This fantastic company makes all sorts of products that are chemical free and preservative free for our precious, developing babies and ourselves too!  These vegan products are vegetable and mineral based.  They range from toothpaste to body butter and even facial scrubs for mommy.  I’ll describe some of the products I ordered and loved…

I know at age 2, she will definitely be swallowing her share of toothpaste when brushing her teeth.  Even the natural toothpaste you see on store shelves have toxins in them that are harmful to baby and you.  The toothpaste from Just The Goods is made from vegetable glycerine, calcium carbonate, coconut oil, kaolin clay, neem oil + essential oils where applicable and that’s it.  No toxic aluminum or anything you cannot pronounce.  Minty tasting, refreshing and Luna likes it – thumbs up!

The nut free body butter is unbelievable! Smells like you can eat it, but DON’T 😉  This is made from cocoa butter (The nut version from shea butter), apricot kernel oil, grape seed oil, and cornstarch. Great for dry winter skin.

The unscented lotion with avocado oil and apricot kernel oil has these two ingredients along with vitamin e, vegetable based emulsifying wax, and aloe leaf gel.  No scent and goes on smooth.  Great for baby massage if you don’t want to use straight apricot kernel oil.

The handmade soap comes in a variety of scents, I chose the plain for Luna.  Ingredients are extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, sunflower oil, castor oil and distilled water.

The vegan sweet orange lip balm is petroleum free.  It’s ingredients are shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, olive fruit oil, candelilla wax, seabuckthorn oil, rosemary oil, vitamin e, and sweet orange oil.  It smells great and nicely moisturizes your lips.

Check out their site,, for their full line of products… lots of great stuff!

Safe Baby Bottles I Used for Luna

I knew I was using glass everything before Luna was born.  Glass bottles, glass storage containers, glass sippy cups, …, etc.  I love Born Free wide neck bottles, the silicone nipples and venting system they use.  Yes, there are many plastic baby products that are PVC free and BPA free, I felt safer with glass.  Glass bottles are naturally free of harmful chemicals, easy to clean and sterilize being dishwasher safe, maintains warmth of formula or milks better, can be boiled and heated, and is environmentally friendly.  The glass bottles are heavier and can break, but they do not break easily – super thick glass and there are silicone sleeves for the bottles.  Born Free bottles are available at, Target, and from many other vendors.  I had originally purchased eight 5ounce glass bottles and later as Luna got older, four 9ounce glass bottles – that amount worked through Luna’s first year and a half. Luna now uses regular glasses or small (9oz) glass bottles by LifeFactory.

Hope this helps when choosing a safe bottle for your baby 🙂

What Should Be In Baby’s Cold Remedy Kit

The three times Luna has been sick with a cold in her two years of life, I have always had much success with the products I am about to mention.

First, an aspirator is an absolute must.  Try to get ones that look like this because the others sold at CVS or other baby supply stores do not work.

Second, Nose Frida.  Works amazingly well for those who have a tough time with the aspirator.

Third, Little Remedies Sterile Nose Spray is an amazing product.  Love this company!  Just spray one or two squirts in each of baby’s nostrils and have them blow their nose.  I make a game out of it and I do it in the bathtub – I spray Luna’s face and hands because it tickles her and I laugh with her… Luna thought it was funny and still does.  I am lucky because Luna has blown her nose before she was one!  This is also great if your baby’s nose is super dry.

Fourth, is Peppermint Oil which is something I always have on hand.   I’ve written before on how many healing properties peppermint has.  A few drops in a humidifier or steam bath will help decongest your baby’s airways, rub on bottoms of feet to help reduce fever, rub on baby’s chest to help decongest and loosen mucus… (Also, helps get rid of those pesky ants in the summer!)

Fifth, Ginger is my favorite multipurpose healing spice.  It boosts immune system, reduces fever, rids throat and nose congestion.  I grate a teaspoon into hot boiling water and dilute it.  Infants, 1 ounce tea to 3 ounce plain water.  Over 1 year, 1/2 water and 1/2 ginger tea.  I make a full strength tea for myself with about 2 teaspoons of fresh, grated ginger and I give to Luna with a spoon.  She usually sips around 5 tablespoons.  Sometimes, I add about a teaspoon of fresh grated turmeric root.  In my experience, this tea nips whatever cold is starting to surface and terminates it on the spot.

Soo, no, you will not find Baby Tylenol or Baby Advil in my arsenal.  It is filled with toxic dyes, high fructose corn syrup, sucralose (cancer causing artificial sweetener), and few more delightfully toxic ingredients.  I stick to nature and what grows from it.

Happy, healthy baby!

Creative Colors For Baby Without Toxic Dyes

One of my favorite finds is Eco Kids USA.  I talked about this company back in my post on Eco-Dough.  Love this company.  Ingredients of their products are from the earth, plants, vegetables, herbs, oils and minerals.   Completely safe for your little one and you don’t have to worry about the toxic colorings normally used in kids products.  Technically, your child can safely eat this stuff… I wouldn’t suggest it though…

Some of the products I have purchased for Luna who loves to be creative, paint and get her fingers dirty are the eco-finger paint containing ingredients of flour, annatto seed, carrots, spinach, earth clay, red grapeseed, purple sweet potato, gardenia, red cabbage and cornstarch.  Eco-crayons, ingredients includes annatto seed, beets, carrots, curcumin, purple sweet potato, red cabbage, spinach. bee palm and soy wax.  Eco-egg coloring kit for Easter coming up next month, ingredients includes natural and organic fruit, plant and vegetable extracts from annatto seed, curcumin, purple sweet potato and red cabbage.

These products can be found at

Be happy, healthy and safe!

Organic Baby, Organic Playdoh!?

Eco-Dough is one of the coolest items Luna received for Christmas.  What better than a playdoh like molding dough that’s ORGANIC! This is made from natural and organic fruit, plant and vegetable extracts.  Eco-dough is brightly colored, soft, and does not smell.  Eco-dough is made by a family run company named Eco-Kids and can be purchased online at or Amazon.  Have fun!

Fighting the Common Cold Au Naturale

When the little one gets sick, although rare, I lean towards her own immune system fighting the aliment off.  A little help is needed sometimes and that’s where I turn to natural remedies without food dyes.  Dyes such as red 3, Red 40, yellow 5, and yellow 6.  These toxic dyes amongst others are found in many of today’s over the counter medicines, processed foods and concentrated sweets. These dyes are known to cause significant increase in hyperactivity in children behavior! Wondering why so many children nowadays are diagnosed with ADHD?!

Luna (2 years of age) contracted a common cold with congestion, cough and low-grade fever.  Keep in mind, the heat from a fever actually helps kill the bacteria and virus our body is fighting – treating a fever can actually slow down recovery.  Peppermint oil, Eucalyptus oil, are great to rub on the chest and add to a steam bath or shower to break up cough and reduce swelling of nasal passages. Peppermint can also help reduce fever – place on bottom of feet and back of neck.

Special Healing Tea – A pinch of powdered or fresh grated Ginger, a pinch of powdered or fresh grated Tumeric, a pinch of Cinnamon or one Cinnamon stick, a squeeze of lemon and a teaspoon of Raw Honey (Do not give if child is under 1 year of age, can cause infantile botulism) added to 2 cups of boiling water for 2 minutes will help cease cough, lower fever and reduce mucus membrane swelling relieving congestion.  This Tea can also be used as an everyday immune booster!

Avoiding processed foods, avoiding sugar, and eating healthy will keep you healthy!
