Nut Milk- The Non Dairy Option

Image

I choose not to eat dairy of any kind and Luna’s eating habits reflect that as well.   Dairy is one of the most acidic foods out there, making the body leach calcium from it’s bones in order to neutralize it.  So, yes, it takes away calcium form your bones!

Opting for homemade nut milks is easy and delicious! I use the power packed Cashew and Brazil Nut.  You can use Almonds too.  The more fatty the nut, the better for Luna’s developing brain!

Here goes this easy recipe:  Makes about 60 ounces

2 Cups nuts of your choice ( I use cashews or Brazil nuts or macadamia nuts  or almonds)

***Soak in water that is bottled, sterilized, ionized, etc…  I like to soak them overnight (8+ hours).  It can be less, around 4 hours if you need to make milk quickly***

2 Medjool dates  ***soak in hot water for 10 minutes to soften***

1/2 – 1 Teaspoon of organic cinnamon depending on your taste preference

5-6 cups water depending how thin or thick you want it

Directions:

Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender.

Blend for 3-5 minutes.

Cashew milk or macadamia nut milk, simply pour into a glass container to store.  Brazil nut milk or almond milk, strain with cheesecloth or a nut bag to eliminate the pulp texture.
